If you’re planning a surf trip to Morocco, one of the first questions is:
“When is the best time to go?”. This guide will help you choose the right time based on your goals, surf level, and weather expectations.
Swell, wind, and conditions can change quickly — no one can guarantee perfect waves on specific dates. However, based on years of experience, there are clear seasonal patterns that can help you plan your trip.
September — perfect for your first surf experience.September is one of the best months to start surfing in Morocco.
- soft, forgiving waves
- warm weather without extreme heat
- very comfortable learning conditions
The sun is still strong, but no longer as intense as in peak summer. The water is often warm enough to surf in a light wetsuit or even a lycra. At the same time, this is still the Atlantic Ocean — it’s easy to get cold during longer sessions, so wetsuits are always recommended (and we provide them).
October – early November — balance of comfort and progress.October and the first half of November remain warm and comfortable: slightly cooler mornings and evenings, more stable and consistent waves, ideal conditions for progression.
For beginners, it’s always possible to find safe and manageable waves. For intermediate surfers, this is one of the best periods: waves are not too big yet, but already more consistent — perfect for building confidence and improving technique.
Water temperature starts to drop, so a 3/2 wetsuit is ideal (and provided in our camp).
Summer (June – August) — not the best time for surfingSummer is the only season we generally don’t recommend for a surf trip to Morocco. This is also when our surf camp takes a break.
Why?
- waves can be very inconsistent — sometimes there are none at all
- temperatures can be extremely hot
- coastal areas become crowded with local tourism
- traffic and overall pace increase significantly
If your goal is to learn surfing, progress, and enjoy the experience — other seasons will give you much better results.
